I've started a new project and am experimenting with using free sources to create traffic. If you're interested, I can keep posting to let you know how things are going -- I'm happy to share this with you all. Here are the initial stats:
Project: Blog, Newsletter and Website on Appetizers -- Appetisers for you non-US members

-- I'm collecting appetizer recipes from people for a collection that I hope to sell. Those whose recipes are accepted will receive a free collection.
On the 16th, I posted Craigslist ads in the "Small Biz Ads" section of the Gigs Category of two cities -- Kansas City and Los Angeles. They stay on Craigslist for 45 days in that category in most cases.
They produced two clicks and no opt-ins.
Yesterday, I posted ads in six cities in the "For Sale/Wanted" category under "Items Wanted." These run for seven days usually -- for some reason the London and Toronto ads are posted for 45 days. I pasted an html table into the ad for the ad content so I could add color, fonts and pictures. I had to make exactly three sentence changes to each ad to avoid the duplicate/similar ad denial warning from Craigslist.
I also changed the email address on each one using the catch-all email address for the domain. I don't know if this is necessary, but it probably doesn't hurt. I did not use a login to post the ad, because that would have forced the email address to be the same for each.
As of this time, I've had 15 unique visitors directly from those ads, and 3 opt-ins. The highest response is from Toronto (they must like appetizers!).
This is example of one of the ads:

Below are my initial stats -- the code at the end indicates the city where the ad is posted.
