If you're doing the 30DC and stuck in the research stage, make sure you don't miss what Mike Mindel released today. It's hard to miss if you're going anywhere near the 30DC forum, but in case you're keeping away so you can do your research here's the link to Mike's blog explaining the tool:
http://www.webventurer.com/blog/thirty-day-challenge-3/

And here's the link to the tool itself:
http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/

Mike has created the ultimate Umbrella Phrase research tool, that in corporates every step of the research phase for you. So if you're like me and are a couple of days behind (more like a week ) this tool will help you get up to speed super quick!

Cheers,
Nez

While I think Mike Mendel's GTrends tool is brilliant, I'm also using Nello's NichExplorer. It really automates things well.

The process I'm following is using NichExplorer to test with a simple phrase or keyword. I export the data if anything useful is there, and the use the GTrends tool to cross reference and qualify the data I have.

It's pretty good, and it's free. Go check out Nello's page and score yourself a copy. http://nichexplorer.com/

(scroll down the bottom to grab yours. ignore the sales copy)

First post on the forum

I have to give a plug for Nello's NichExplorer, I was doing research the long way and can't believe the time it's saving.

I've already used over 10,000 credits, so I've found a slightly different method to Nez's, that is far easier on the eyes and gives you a deeper look at phrases you might miss.

1) Start with a phrase or keyword.

2) If it looks promising, open a tab in firefox and put the same phrase or keyword into http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

3) This gives you a window with all the keywords that NichExplorer has. (you'll see why you need it in a second).

4) Back to NichExplorer.
Looking at the data, note all the promising keywords, but don't ignore too many .

5)c&p the first promising keyword, (from the open firefox tab), into the NichExplorer "wordtracker Analysis" box, continue as normal, running Analysis on the word / phrase (Start Analysis).
DON'T EXPORT THE DATA

5)c&p the second promising keyword into the NichExplorer "wordtracker Analysis" box, continue as normal, running Analysis on the word / phrase (Start Analysis).
DON'T EXPORT THE DATA

6) as above for all the promising keywords.

After I've done this, THEN I export the data and open it in Excel, and sort by "Expected Traffic - Pages/Day".

This way I have one spreadsheet with all the keywords and I can see at a glance what has potential.

ENJOY
